ROAD WARRIOR In Studio To Record ‘Fist-Clenching And Manly Classic Metal’ Debut Album ‘Power’

Australian true metal brigade Road Warrior has entered in January Against The Grain Studio in Thebarton, South Australia to record their debut album, “Power”.
The effort will be released by Italy’s Gates Of Hell Records in 2018.

Comments vocalist/bassist Denimal Blake: “In between alcoholic drinking ‘takes,’ we aim to lay down eight trend-rending tracks of diverse, fist clenching, manly and classic metal. Our direction is simple and somewhat complex. With so many crushing and inspiring albums to come before us (40 years of homage), we simply aspire to the same quality as those before. The complexity is inherent in the value of each song and having its place on an album that is less a bunch of tracks, than a heavy metal journey. That said, we wholly aspire to taking the smallest of steps, wherever we can, to broaden our sound in appreciable ways.”

ROAD WARRIOR, who are rounded out by guitarist Overdryve and drummer The Villain, spent the time leading up to the recording of “Power” rehearsing and developing the songs Blake had written. According to the frontman, the band’s new lineup coupled with the songs that will comprise “Power”, give ROAD WARRIOR a distinct sound.

“Our canvas is effectively an ’80s sound. We have the wantonness, power and reverb, but also, we have some ’70s heavy metal tonalities peppered in our songs. The proto-metal of the late ’70s and early ’80s are some of the greatest in terms of exploration, as heaviness had nary a definition. Every band was seeking something similar, but taking different paths. Nowadays we have the extreme metal (black, death, thrash) template well ingrained, but many assume you need to take steps backwards in order to create classic metal. This is wrong.”

After the release of “Power”, ROAD WARRIOR will be hitting the live circuit, including festivals. However, with the creative juices still flowing, ROAD WARRIOR plan on working on a new batch of songs sooner rather than later.

“The moment we finish recording ‘Power’, we get straight into the second album,” says Blake. “Unless something steers our path elsewhere, I would see only 12-18 months between any album, until my writing well runs dry and I have to call Gene Simmons for riffs.”

Swedish Thrashers BLACK CYCLONE Join Gates Of Hell Records

Gothenburg, Sweden thrashers BLACK CYCLONE have inked a deal with Gates Of Hell Records for the physical release of their first full-length album, “Death Is King”. The album was released by the band in digital format in early 2018.

Originally formed in 2009, BLACK CYCLONE’s sound initially channeled black metal on their “Chaos Brigade” (2012) and “Under Your Hoof” (2013) demos, eventually morphing into all-out, vintage thrash, which is displayed across “Death Is King”, an album stocked with surges of speed, NWOBHM-styled guitar solos, twisting power metal and the animated, sky-scraping vocals of Linus Johansson, who also handles vocal duties in TRIAL.

“After we settled on thrash metal, it all felt right and we were ready to record BLACK CYCLONE’s first album,” comments bass guitarist Per Andreasson. “The changes in style were just a result of what we wanted to play in different periods of time.”

The songs on “Death Is King” are the result of many years of work, songs that were accordingly, re-written to suit BLACK CYCLONE’s ever-evolving sound. “Now that we have found our style, it’s time to begin this journey,” says Andreasson. “We just thought that ‘Death Is King’ had a nice ring to it and it’s easy to remember. The name comes from the opening track of the album, ‘Death Is Crowned As King’, which we thought would be a too long name for the album title. The lyrical themes differ from song to song, everything from Cthulhu and anti-religion to anarchy and anti-establishment.”

“Death Is King” will be released on April 27, in COMPACT DISC and VINYL edition.

PULVER To Release Self-Titled 7-Inch Debut Via Gates Of Hell Records

German classic metal hybrid PULVER will release their self-titled debut 7-inch on April 20 via Gates Of Hell Records, a sub-label of Cruz Del Sur Music.

Recorded by Heiner Kunkel at Dreiklang Audio in the band’s hometown of Aschaffenburg, the 7-inch was mixed at Big Snuff Studio in Berlin by Richard Behrens. The recording took place roughly a year after PULVER‘s 2016 formation, showcasing a band adept at harnessing the rawness of NWOBHM with the melody and power of traditional and progressive metal.

“Our origin is pretty basic,” notes vocalist David Fröhlich. “There isn’t really a huge hard rock/heavy metal scene in a small city like ours, so everyone pretty much knew each other anyway. One day in late 2016, we decided to start jamming and pretty soon noticed that everything fits together quite well, so we continued until the point where we found the songs presentable enough to release a demo and here we are now!”

PULVER plans on following up the release of the 7-inch with the recording of their first proper full-length, along with other activities, according to Fröhlich. “We’re gonna play a lot of shows, meet new people on the road and have some fun!”

For fans of Motorhead, Fist, Iron Maiden and early NWOBHM.

Awesome cover artwork by Karmazid!

FINLAND’S CHEVALIER AND LEGIONNAIRE PLAN SPLIT RELEASE

Representing a new breed in Finnish classic metal, CHEVALIER and LEGIONNAIRE will be teaming up for a split release via Gates Of Hell Records. The split – featuring one song from each band – will be recorded at Black Floyd’s Analog Studio in Hämeenkyrö, Finland. The recording will also mark the first Gates Of Hell release for CHEVALIER.

Comments CHEVALIER guitarist Tommi Puurunen: “We asked LEGIONNAIRE to do a split with us after playing gigs together to show the rest of the world a collaboration of Finnish metal played the way it never really has been played around here. Our side of the split is a fast-paced ripper taking you back a few centuries…”

“We are good friends with CHEVALIER and we are eagerly looking forward to the sessions and the release,” adds LEGIONNAIRE drummer Akseli Häärä. We are quite confident about the split release because we think the combination of LEGIONNAIRE and CHEVALIER is killer! That has already been proven since we’ve shared the stage with them a couple of times. There will be lots of epic guitar action, medieval tunes and speed coming up! Our song is a solid follow-up to the freshly-released full-length.”

Formed in 2016 in Helsinki, CHEVALIER took the underground by storm with its “A Call To Arms” EP. Recorded in the band’s rehearsal room, “A Call To Arms” showcased the banshee screams of vocalist Emma Grönqvist alongside furious IRON MAIDEN gallops and MERCYFUL FATE-like song structures.

LEGIONNAIRE already has one Gates Of Hell release to their credit – this year’s stalwart “Dawn Of Genesis”. Heralded for its relentless dual-guitar action and emotive vocals of Aku Tiensuu, “Dawn Of Genesis” instantly made LEGIONNAIRE a favorite among old-school metal fans. Prior to “Dawn Of Genesis”, the band released two demos before signing with Gates Of Hell.

IRON GRIFFIN SIGNS WITH GATES OF HELL RECORDS

Finnish Epic Metal band IRON GRIFFIN, the side-project of MAUSOLEUM GATE’s drummer Oscar Razanez, signed with Gates of Hell Rec. The band’s debut four-song EP will be released on 12” mini-LP and cassette.

Comments Razanez: “IRON GRIFFIN is a new project which started about a year ago as a one-man band mostly to improve myself at playing different instruments and writing music. Session vocals are done by my friend and spectacular singer Toni Pentikäinen. “The future of this project is living right now. I will continue working with new material and try to search for players to form a ‘real band,’ maybe. But this EP is a good start for me and the journey continues in one way or another.”

The EP is already available for download on Bandcamp:
